Meet The Konjac Root

Konjac is a starchy root vegetable native to East Asia, traditionally grown in the mountainous regions of Japan, Korea, and China. For centuries, it’s been used in Japanese wellness rituals and cuisine, prized for its gentle, skin-loving fibre known as glucomannan.

To create our konjac sponges, the root is first harvested, dried, and finely ground into a soft flour. This flour is mixed with water and carefully heated to form a jelly-like paste. It’s then poured into moulds, baked or freeze-dried, to create a firm, bouncy sponge when rehydrated — ready to cleanse, exfoliate, and compost with ease.

How to Use + Care Steps

How to Use
  1. Soak sponge in warm water until soft and cloud-like.
  2. Add your body wash (or use with water alone).
  3. Massage in circular motions to cleanse and gently exfoliate.
  4. Rinse thoroughly after use.
  5. Squeeze out excess water (don’t wring — press gently).
Care Tips
  • Hang to dry in a well-ventilated space.
  • Avoid leaving in the shower or sitting in water.
  • For deep clean, soak in hot water weekly.
  • Replace every 4–6 weeks, or when fibres begin to naturally break down.
End of Life
  • Cut the sponge into small pieces and place in your home compost, green bin, garden, or general waste.
  • Packaging is recyclable and compostable.

If you choose, you can sanitise and refresh your sponge weekly.

  • Place it in hot water and boil for a few minutes.
  • Remove from the water and allow it cool before gently squeezing out excess water.
  • Hang to dry in a sunny, well-ventilated spot.

FAQ

What is a Konjac Body Sponge?

A soft, plant-based body sponge made from natural Konjac root fibres. It gently exfoliates, boosts lather, and offers a biodegradable alternative to plastic loofahs.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes. Konjac fibres soften when hydrated, creating a cushioned cleanse ideal for sensitive, dry, mature, or easily-irritated skin.

How does it exfoliate?

Very gently. The micro-fibres lift dead skin and encourage healthy renewal without friction or harsh scrubbi

Can I use it every day?

Absolutely. It’s designed for daily cleansing and gentle exfoliation.

Does it contain fragrance or additives?

No — just pure Konjac fibre with powdered botanicals for color eg. Green Tea Powder, Activated Charcoal Powder, Pink Clay Powder. No dyes, fragrance, or synthetic fillers.

How long does it last?

Typically 4–6 weeks with daily use. Replace when the sponge begins to break down or lose structure.

Is it compostable?

Yes — the sponge can go straight into your home compost at the end of its life.

Why does the sponge feel firm when dry?

Konjac hardens naturally when dry. Soak in warm water until fully soft before use.

Why did I see bubbles the first time?

Tiny air pockets in the plant fibres release when first hydrated. This may look like light foam — it disappears after a rinse or two. It’s completely natural.
